the hunt for lavacake...

a few friends and i have an on-going email chain. i would hope to think you might have this as well and we're not the only weirdos out there. every month, "email crew" likes to go out to dinner together - especially if there is something to celebrate about.

this month's dinner was dedicated to steph (sept. 13) & rex's (aug. 17) bdays. ok, rex got the short end of the stick since his celebration was so delayed - my bad yo!

after a long search of restaurants - all steph wanted was lavacake (the warm chocolate molten cake or souffle as you might know it as) since she is OBSESSED with it - so in the end she decided on komegashi too by the pavonia/newport path train in jersey city. http://www.komegashi.com/k2.html

you might as well call me morimoto because apparently all i ate yesterday was japanese food. oh well, it was yummy-licious! here's a snapshot of the plates on the table:
the "ambiance" - cute place though really. too bad our friend chingy aka kiki chanel wasnt working!

my order: "roll katsu" - it was a fried roll with a pork katsu in it - with asparagus, scallions & carrots. interesting choice but waaay too much food. kind of looks like the platter should have been presented on a buffet line, right? anyways, i'm glad i stepped out of the box and ordered something different.
however - the next time i am in the mood for katsu i will always go to KATSU HAMA instead! this place is amazing and deserves its own blog entry shortly. http://www.katsuhama.com/

shrimp tempura rolls - classic order

beef udon - another fave

ok mind you, these arent all MINE- they were other people's. cmon now, i'm not that bad!

EDIT: a few hours have passed and i forgot i didn't put the whole reason for the title of this entry. in the end...........they didn't have any lavacake! they were "out of sugar" lol
